*** SEE NEW VERSION SEN-10057 *** Ideal for accurate short range detection the Sharp GP2D120XJ00F infrared (IR) sensor ranges from a close up 4cm through to 30cm. Perfect as a reliable contact free bumper with advanced warning.
This is a very easy to use sensor. Supply power and the sensor outputs an analog voltage related to the distance. You do not need any extra control algorithms or circuitry. The GP2D120XJ00F is the ROHS compliant replacement for the GP2D120.
We recommend the 3-Pin JST connector to go with this sensor to make hooking it up to your project a snap. The connector on these Sharp sensors is smaller than the normal 2.54mm header spacing expected.
The Sharp GP2D120XJ00F is has a closer detection limit than the GP2Y0A02YK0F and GP2Y0A21YK0F sensors. This enables it to be used effectively as a contact free bumper with enough detection distance to slow down before a crash.
Like the GP2Y0A02YK0F and GP2Y0A21YK0F the GP2D120XJ00F uses control circuitry to compensate for ambient conditions and optical triangulation to determine distance which is far more robust than simply measuring the intensity of returned infrared light.
Here is a chart of the output voltage as a function of distance
Despite the large difference between the reflectivity of the gray and white paper the sensor is still able to output reliable readings. Even at close distances the sensor still gives good readings.
