Description

The SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor returns a simple analog voltage signal that can be read from microcontrollers. To prevent corrosion the sensor has been gold coated via ENIG (Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold). The two wide probes are pushed into soil, dirt, sand or anything similar.

Water moisture in the soil will conduct electricity and the more water the more conductivity. The sensor measures this resistance level and returns a reading via the signal wire. The other two connections are for power and ground.

This sensor can be used to detect when gardens or plants need to be watered. See the hookup guide and other details below for how to use this sensor.
