Connect your Arduino to the Internet with this Arduino Ethernet shield. The Wiznet W5500 chip on board supports TCP/IP, UDP and 8 simultaneous socket connections. Plug in a standard Cat5/6 Ethernet cable and your Arduino is ready to talk on your network.
This is the ideal shield to hook an Arduino up to a LAN or to the Internet. The Ethernet chip on the board is the Wiznet W5500 which does the heavy lifting of dealing with TCP/IP and UDP protocols and supports up to 8 simultaneous socket connections so your program doesn't need to hang waiting for a response. All you need to do is use the Arduino Ethernet Library and plug in a Cat5/6 Ethernet cable to get an Arduino based project talking to the net.
With long stackable headers this shield passes though all Arduino pins so other shields to be used at the same time.
A micro-SD card slot is included on the board. This can be used to store data like HTTP pages that will be streamed out from the device or for any other storage needs. The Arduino SD library can be used to access the SD card on the Uno or Mega (SS is on Pin 4).
This new version of the Arduino Ethernet shield includes a reset controller so it will reset correctly when powered up or power cycled. TinkerKit input / output connections are available on the top of the board also.
The Ethernet Shield 2 has a standard RJ-45 connection, with an integrated line transformer and Power over Ethernet enabled but please be aware that this shield does not come with a built in PoE module. The PoE module that will need to be added on is a separate component that must be added on. This shield also features several TinkerKit input/output and communication interfaces that can be found on the topside of the board.
POE (Power over Ethernet) is supported on the shield with an integrated line transformer but the POE module is sold separately and needs to be soldered in.
